Summary:The technique for the determination of the rate of corrosion based on harmonic analysis was employed in the case of the corrosion of ARMCO iron electrode in sulphuric acid media inhibited with aromatic inhibitors. Simultaneously with the electrochemical measurements the rate of corrosion was also determined by solution analysis. A good agreement was obtained between the two methods when a proper surface treatment of the electrode was used. A comparison of the proposed technique with the method of polarization resistance revealed that the main sources of error of the latter technique, namely the error caused by the erroneous estimation of the Tafel slopes and the perturbation with relatively large amplitude, can be avoided by the use of the technique based on Faradaic distortion.
