Electrodeposition and hard magnetic properties of Co–Pt films in comparison to Fe–Pt films

Co–Pt thin films were prepared using single bath electrodeposition. The deposition process was analysed using current-potential and electrochemical quartz microbalance (EQCM) measurements. As-deposited films were annealed to achieve the L 1 0 phase. Under optimised conditions, a maximum coercivity o...

Summary:Co–Pt thin films were prepared using single bath electrodeposition. The deposition process was analysed using current-potential and electrochemical quartz microbalance (EQCM) measurements. As-deposited films were annealed to achieve the L 1 0 phase. Under optimised conditions, a maximum coercivity of 1.17 T and a maximum remanence of 0.7 T are achieved. The δ J analysis of the hysteresis loops reveals exchange coupling in the annealed film. Deposition process, phase formation, and magnetic properties are discussed in comparison to electrodeposited Fe–Pt films.
