Summary:Paramagnetic, purely organic, chiral liquid crystals showing a thermally stable smectic C* phase with low viscosity over a wide temperature range (between 50 and 90 °C) have been successfully prepared for the first time. Their ferroelectric properties have been characterized by measuring the spontaneous polarization, the optical response time of bistable switching under an applied electric field, and the tilt angle. The Figure shows the broken fan‐shaped texture of the SmC* phase of (2S,5S)‐2c at 80.0 °C.
