Summary: | Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer- related deaths. Metastasis, which is an importantelement of gastric cancer, leads to a high mortality rateand to a poor prognosis. Gastric cancer metastasis hasa complex progression that involves multiple biologicalprocesses. The comprehensive mechanisms of metastasisremain unclear, though traditional regulation modulatesthe molecular functions associated with metastasis.Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have a role in differentgene regulatory pathways by epigenetic modificationand by transcriptional and post-transcription regulation.lncRNAs participate in various diseases, includingAlzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The altered expressions of certain lncRNAs are linked togastric cancer metastasis and invasion, as with tumorsuppressor genes or oncogenes. Studies have partlyelucidated the roles of lncRNAs as biomarkers and intherapies, as well as their gene regulatory mechanisms. However, comprehensive knowledge regarding thefunctional mechanisms of gene regulation in metastaticgastric cancer remains scarce. To provide a theoreticalbasis for therapeutic intervention in metastatic gastriccancer, we reviewed the functions of lncRNAs and theirregulatory roles in gastric cancer metastasis. |
