Summary:[Display omitted] •The specific considerations for the procedure of 3D printing of natural fiber and their derivatives -degradable polymer-based biocomposites was analyzed.•The application for 3D printing of natural fiber and their derivatives -degradable polymer-based biocomposites was outlined.•The prospects on 3D printing of biocomposites based on natural fiber were discussed. Natural fiber and its derivatives are one of the most widely used biomass and polymers. On-going research and applications of natural fiber-based composites have gained increasing attention in the current state of sustainable development. 3D printing has provided a novel approach for the growth and promotion of natural fiber-based composite materials and an important platform for the development of biomass materials toward intelligentization and industrialization. This paper analyzes the current research status of 3D printing in the area of composite materials and provides a research outlook on 3D printed composite materials made from natural fibers, polymers and gels.
