Summary:The haemolytic potential of attapulgite (Senegal) has been investigated. When the particles were pretreated with dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) or with bovine serum albumin (BSA) at a concentration that would obtain maximum coverage of the particles by adsorption, a change in haemolysis was observed. The results indicate that haemolysis is strongly dependent on the surface state of the particles.
