Summary:Ultra‐thin micropatterned colloidal gold films on conducting platforms have been fabricated by a combination of microtransfer molding and electrophoretic deposition techniques. The nano‐ and microstructure of the film were characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy and the optical properties were examined by UV‐vis spectroscopy. It is shown that these patterned films are capable of functioning as transmissive 2D optical diffraction gratings.
