Summary:Copper (Cu), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) concentrations in the mussel elliptio were estimated. Statistical analysis of data was carried out using SPSS statistical package programs. Differences between two different groups were compared by independent student t test. It was shown that Pb and Cu contents were higher, and Hg contents were lower. Cd contents were higher than Anadolu Kavagi but lower than Yenikapi contents. It was shown that Yenikapi region was more polluted than Anadolu Kavagi region. The results concluded that the metal levels in the marine environment had increased due to oil pollution and airborne contaminants.
