Summary: | Highlights • Dorsally dislocated claw or hammer toes are a common source of discomfort in the forefoot for patients with inflammatory and non-inflammatory arthritidies. • The Stainsby procedure permits relocation of the plantar plate under the metatarsal head for cushioned weight-bearing but the literature shows poor cosmesis and high infection rates. • By combining the Stainsby with the Cobb tendon tranfer, we have shown an excellent reduction in pain, callosities and activity limitation with lower infection rates. • Our results compare favourable with the Weil’s osteotomy in regards to toe alignment, metatarsalgia and recurrence. • We believe that the Cobb-Stainsby technique is a useful and technically simple method for correcting dislocated claw or hammer toes regardless of aetiology. |
