Summary:Over the past two years, two major policy changes have affected the ability of lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults to gain and keep health insurance coverage and access health care: the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the expansion of marriage equality. Since 2013 several studies have shown large reductions in the uninsurance rate for LGB adults. This study assessed whether this reduction in the uninsurance rate has been accompanied by improvements in access and affordability, along with the extent of gaps between LGB and non-LGB adults. The authors used data from the Health Reform Monitoring Survey, a probability-based Internet survey conducted quarterly since 2013. They did not find statistically significant changes in access to and affordability of care over the past twelve months during the study period, although difficulties obtaining and affording care appear to have declined.
