Summary:A new interactive automatic mesh generator is proposed for use on microcomputers. The method (originally belonging to the blocking method) generates the topological properties independently from other geometrical and physical properties which are required for the finite element analysis. It includes an effective mesh generator for transient areas with quadrilateral and triangular configurations, and it can greatly increase the flexibility of the application of the method to an area with a complex configuration and, at the same time, it can decrease the amount of input data required for mesh generation. Taking into consideration the characteristics and properties of microcomputers (e.g. low speed computation and sufficient graphics functions), the proposed method is coded in BASIC. At present the method is valid only for two-dimensional cases.
