Summary:Temporal variation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) concentration in mussel tissue in two areas of Santander Bay was examined. To determine the temporal evolution, the Kendall Tau-b correlation coefficient was used and a decreasing trend in PCB levels was verified for both areas. The two sampling areas selected, despite their proximity, were subjected to very different anthropogenic influences. The contributions of each CB to the sum of the seven (SCB7) were practically the same in both areas. Analysis of the data showed that the annual relationship between the SCB7 concentrations obtained for both areas remained practically constant throughout the years of study, being three times higher in Pantalan than in Pedrena.
