Summary:According to the AAMC data base, only 36 of the 214 (17%) Radiology Department chairs in the United States are women [2]. Woman leaders began to appear on the national radiology organization scene with Dr. Adele Swenson being appointed the RSNA executive director in 1971 to be followed in 1995 with Dr. Helen Redman being elected the first woman president of the RSNA [10]. Dr. Valerie Jackson now serves as its Executive Director [12], The Society of Chairs in Academic Radiology Departments (SCARD) did not have a female president until 2012, Dr. Valerie Jackson, and will not see another female president until 2020, when Dr. Cheri Canon assumes the role [15].
