Summary:The interaction of an impactor and a clamped, anisotropic plate at low velocities is studied. A series expansion for the plate deflection is assumed and the equations of motion are derived from the Lagrangian of the system. The resulting system of equations is solved using Newmark's β-method. Large plate deflections are taken into account by applying von Karman's equations for the strain components. Contact forces between impactor and plate and the center deflection of the plate are calculated for various isotropic and orthotropic plates and are compared to literature values. Finally the model was used to check the force-time curve of an impacted CFRP-facesheet that was recorded in the course of the material qualification of a satellite-carrier structure.
