Summary:A series of Zr/Al/Mg composite oxide catalysts were prepared by the co-precipitation method. The catalytic performances of Zr/Al/Mg composite oxide catalysts in the synthesis of ethylene glycol ethyl ether acetate by the ethoxylation of ethyl acetate with ethylene oxide were investigated. The results indicated that the addition of zirconium to Al/Mg composite oxides led to the increase in the amount of basic sites and the decrease in the amount of acid sites simultaneously. The excellent catalytic performance of Zr/Al/Mg composite oxide catalysts for the ethoxylation of ethyl acetate could be attributed to the co-operativity of the acidic and basic sites on the catalysts.
