Summary:The abundant hydroelectric potential from the Spokane River, proximity to the booming silver mines of northern Idaho, and development of a rail network to ship the many commodities of the Inland Empire to the population centers back East assured the city a bright future. In a front-page photo obituary, the Spokesman Review newspaper lauded him for his life of service, as did a memorial notice published at Sacred Heart Hospital, where he was recognized as a surgeon who was "bold without being rash, possessing excellent surgical judgement, a clear-headed and dependable advisor" [3].
