Summary: | To facilitate large-scale patient-centred research, PCORI established PCORnet in 2014.3,4 This clinical research network was built on comprehensive electronic health record data from more than 100 million individuals, curated by 13 clinical data research networks and 20 patient-powered research networks, each composed of patients with single or related health conditions that are organised to share data and participate in clinical research. With electronic health record data come novel opportunities to characterise cancer diagnosis and treatment in real-world settings and to study the consequences of practice variation. 3 RL Fleurence, LH Curtis, RM Califf, R Platt, JV Selby, JS Brown, Launching PCORnet, a national patient-centered clinical research network, J Am Med Inform Assoc, Vol. 21, 2014, 578-582 4 FS Collins, KL Hudson, JP Briggs, MS Lauer, PCORnet: turning a dream into reality, J Am Med Inform Assoc, Vol. 21, 2014, 576-577 5 RM Califf, MA Robb, AB Bindman, Transforming evidence generation to support health and health care decisions, N Engl J Med, Vol. 375, 2016, 2395-2400 6 S Khozin, G Kim, R Pazdur, Nat Rev Drug Discov, Vol. 16, 2017, 306 7 A Shah, AK Stewart, A Kolacevski, D Michels, R Miller, Building a rapid learning health care system for oncology: why CancerLinQ collects identifiable health information to achieve its vision, J Clin Oncol, Vol. 34, 2016, 756-763 8 The Oncology Research Information Exchange Network, (accessed Sept 29, 2017). |
