Summary:We advance the idea that monitoring teammates' task related behaviors will benefit overall team performance by enhancing team coordination and the provision of feedback. We used 32 3-person teams to conduct a simulated flight combat team exercise and measured monitoring, teamwork processes, and performance. Results offer empirical support for the framework proposed in this study: that team monitoring improves coordination and feedback processes, and that these coordination and feedback processes in turn improve team performance. Conceptual implications regarding team regulation processes and practical implications regarding team monitoring are discussed.
