Summary:In the present paper, the dynamic response of a thermopiezoelectric rod to a moving heat source is obtained on the basis of the Lord and Shulman theory of generalized thermoelasticity. Three fully coupled, dynamic, governing differential equations for the problem in terms of displacement, temperature, and electric potential are derived and analytically solved in the Laplace domain by successive decoupling of the equations. The time-dependent dynamic response of the rod is obtained through numerical inversion of the results in the Laplace domain. Numerical examples are compared with available results in the literature to validate the current work. Moreover, the significant effect of pyroelectricity that has been overlooked in the literature is revealed in the current work.
