Summary:Phase equilibria in Al–Ni–Sc ternary system have been measured through alloy sampling. According to the results from electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction techniques, isothermal sections of Al–Ni–Sc ternary system at 1173 K and 1273 K were constructed, where four new ternary phases, τ7 (Ni 2 Al 5 Sc), τ8 (Ni 2 Al 4 Sc), τ9 (NiAl 2 Sc 3 ) and τ10 (NiAlSc 5 ), were detected along with the formerly reported ternary compounds, τ1 (NiAlSc), τ2 (Ni 2 AlSc) and τ5 (NiAl 2 Sc). The existence of τ3 (Ni 7 Al 16 Sc 6 ), τ4 (NiAl 4 Sc) and τ6 (Ni 3 Al 9 Sc) reported previously in the literature was not confirmed in this work. And τ1 shows large composition range at 1173 K and 1273 K.
