Summary:The present paper analyses and compares two optimized solutions for a HEVs: a spark ignition Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) based one and Fuel Cell (FC) based one. A mathematical model to simulate the performance and the energy consumption of the two proposed solutions has been developed using the WLTP, US06, Highway and Urban driving cycles for the comparison. The control strategy assumed for the power sharing in both the configuration is a hybrid SOC based load following one, since that it enables to decouple the APU and the battery pack size.
