Abstract Infection with Cryptococcus neoformans is a common complication in AIDS patients in sub-Saharan Africa. We report here on a prospective study in which the prevalence of cryptococcal antigens was determined in AIDS patients presenting with meningeal signs over a 1-year period at a regional referral hospital in northwest Ethiopia. Also, the seropositivity rate was ascertained in all patients with a clinical diagnosis of AIDS being admitted over a 3-month period.
