Summary:Some water-tolerant allylating agents prepared in situ from allylmagnesium chloride and bismuth trichloride, tin tetrachloride, tin dichloride, antimony trichloride, indium trichloride, or nickel dichloride reacted with aldehydes in THF-H2O to afford the desired homoallylic alcohols in good yields. The present reaction proceeded more smoothly than that under non-aqueous media.
