Summary:The WHO Nomenclature Committee for factors of the HLA system met in Hakone after the 11th International Histocompatibility Workshop and Conference during November 1991 to consider additions and revisions to the nomenclature of specificities defined by both molecular and serological techniques following the principles established in previous reports. The main subjects discussed were: 1. Naming of new HLA genes; 2. Naming of new alleles; 3. Naming of new serological specificities; 4. Naming of other genes in the HLA region; 5. Promoter region variants. This report contains a complete list of all HLA class I and class II genes and alleles and all serological specificities officially recognized.
