Summary: | [...]older adults with frailty are at increased risk of stroke and worse disability-adjusted life-years if they have a stroke.2–4 Nevertheless, the interplay between frailty and stroke is intricate and its assessment is not clearly defined. [...]standardisation of the assessment scales is needed to allow comparability of findings. [...]frailty and pre-frailty are common and should be addressed in patients with stroke.2,4 A few interventions are being developed to address frailty, including exercise and nutritional supplementation, which are interventions listed in our Commission for stroke prevention or rehabilitation.1 As part of the future directions for the acute care and rehabilitation pillars, we recommend development of evidence-based pragmatic interventions for stroke patients with frailty. In panel 2 of the Commission, we emphasised the importance of secure electronic medical record systems for stroke surveillance across all countries. |
