Summary:NiO dendrites and tree-like nanostructures were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal reaction of Ni(NO 3 ) 2 , ethylenediamine, and thiourea. It was found that achievement of such structures depended on the duration time of the hydrothermal method, the temperature, and the capping agents used. The obtained powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (ESR). The g value obtained from the paramagnetic resonance signal was g  = 2.022, corresponding to Ni 2+ ion in NiO.
