Summary:A chiral nonlinear optical material, 4-isobutyl-3-(5-nitro-2-pyridyl)-2-oxazolidinone (IBNPO), was developed and grown into a single crystal using the seeded slow-cooling method. The molecular hyperpolarizability of IBNPO was determined to be β IBNPO =2.12×10 -30 esu by the dc-induced second-harmonic generation technique. IBNPO crystal is monoclinic and belongs to the space group P 2 1 . The cutoff wavelength of IBNPO crystal is 410 nm. Angle-tuned type II phase-matched second-harmonic generation at 1064 nm, 860 nm and 830 nm was demonstrated in the plane perpendicular to the a-b plane.
