Summary: | Data and judgment have been combined to provide a description of the seismic hazard at nuclear power plant sites and to develop fragility descriptions of equipment. In both cases, available data was insufficient to adequately describe the situation and had to be supplemented by expert opinion. This paper describes how this was done. Both methods involved the use of questionnaires and peer review panels but in different ways. The results have been used both in NRC's Systematic Evaluation Program and the Seismic Safety Margins Research Program. |
