Summary:[Display omitted] Degradable ionomers possess fewer than 15mol percent of ionic units distributed along a degradable polymer backbone. The aggregation of ionic units has significant effects on the properties of ionomer materials, which renders them suitable in a range of shape memory, biomedical and agricultural applications. In this review, we provide an overview of the synthetic strategies used to produce degradable ionomers and some of the useful properties and applications of these materials. To our knowledge, this is the first review dedicated to the topic of degradable ionomers and it is intended to provide the reader with a concise introduction to the field.
