Summary:Water distribution networks (WDN) have been a topic of discussion among scientists and researchers since a long time because of the complexity involved in its engineering design and also because of mathematical computation. Moreover, the study of a WDN becomes crucial when a new WDN is to be designed or an existing one is to be expanded. In the present study, the focus is on the Hanoi WDN which has a complex structure consisting of three closed loops, 34 pipes and 31 nodes subject to various constraints due to the conservation of energy and mass; pressure constraints and pipe availability constraints. The problem is treated as a combinatorial optimization problem and is solved through a hybrid metaheuristic algorithm named FA-PSO integrated with simulation software EPANET.
