Summary:This paper describes activities undertaken as part of a large-scale weaning intervention program carried out in the northern central highlands of Peru as part of the Dietary Management of Diarrhea (DMD) Program. The object of the DMD project was to reduce or eliminate the adverse nutritional consequences of childhood diarrhea by developing improved household dietary practices during and after diarrhea. Although the objective of the project in Peru was to design home-prepared mixed diets suitable for feeding during and after diarrhea, the methodology presented in this paper could be applied to the development of any weaning food mixture
