Design of Load Frequency Controllers Using Genetic Algorithm for Two Area Interconnected Hydro Power System

In this article, load frequency control (LFC) of a two area hydro system is studied. Optimum gain settings of different types of controllers are obtained using the genetic algorithm (GA) for a two area hydro power system. A brief sketch of the genetic algorithm (GA) is presented and its strategy as...

Summary:In this article, load frequency control (LFC) of a two area hydro system is studied. Optimum gain settings of different types of controllers are obtained using the genetic algorithm (GA) for a two area hydro power system. A brief sketch of the genetic algorithm (GA) is presented and its strategy as a method of control system design is discussed. Results are presented for different types of controllers. Analysis reveals that PID controllers give better dynamic responses for a two area hydro system.
