Expermental nutritionists will continue to investigate nutrients especially the fat-soluble vitamins and trace minerals. Clinical nutritionists are concerned with the relationship of diet to health and disease. Food components will be studied for their long-term health effects. Major milestones highlighted are: Recommended Dietary Allowances; bacterial nutrition; radioactive tracers and 1-carbon metabolism; molecular biology; function of the B-complex and fat-soluble vitamins; essential fatty acids; trace minerals; total parenteral nutrition; and advances in methodology.
