Summary:22-Dehydrocampesterol [(24 S)24-methylcholesta-5, E-22-dien-3β-ol] was isolated from the seeds of oriental mustard, Brassica juncea, by reversed phase HPLC. This sterol has been previously detected in some marine organisms, but never found in higher plants. The configuration at C-24 was unambiguously proved by high resolution (400 MHz) 1H NMR spectroscopy.
