Summary:A new transformation technique for maximum likelihood common factor analysis (MLCFA) is proposed as an alternative method for the traditional target transformations. The so-called multiple region transformation (MRT) makes no use of spectral reference libraries or target vectors, but computes the real solution analytically. Both techniques, MLCFA and MRT, are incorporated in a factor analysis software package, called Factor Soft © (FS) 1 1 B.V.B.A. Factor Soft, St.-Pietersaalstraat 167, B-9000 Gent, tel: +32 9 264 47 42, fax: +32 9 264 49 94 . The factor analysis software FS has been applied in combination with AES to study the reaction products formed at the interface of natural rubber vulcanized on a thin brass layer under specific conditions.
