Anti-A1 Specific Lectin from a Central American Leguminous Plant

Summary An anti-A1 specific lectin has been found in an extract of Crotalaria breviflora, a leguminous plant from Costa Rica. α-Lactose and l-rhamnose did not neutralize the agglutination reaction for human blood group A1 when tested against extracts of C. breviflora and Crotalaria selectron, but in...

Summary:Summary An anti-A1 specific lectin has been found in an extract of Crotalaria breviflora, a leguminous plant from Costa Rica. α-Lactose and l-rhamnose did not neutralize the agglutination reaction for human blood group A1 when tested against extracts of C. breviflora and Crotalaria selectron, but inhibited the reactions with groups A2, B, and O cells. A comparison of the variability of reactivity of different species of Crotalaria to subgroups of human type A is reported.
