Ru assisted total 211 particle pushing in melt-grown Y123 superconductor

0.25 wt.% of Ru addition to Y123/211 melt-grown bulk causes total 211 particle pushing by the growth front and 211 free Y123 single crystal is formed. The size of the 211 free Y123 single crystal we obtained was 9.3×9.3×4.5 mm 3. Ru is not solved in the Y123 phase and is concentrated at the growth f...

Summary:0.25 wt.% of Ru addition to Y123/211 melt-grown bulk causes total 211 particle pushing by the growth front and 211 free Y123 single crystal is formed. The size of the 211 free Y123 single crystal we obtained was 9.3×9.3×4.5 mm 3. Ru is not solved in the Y123 phase and is concentrated at the growth front. The 211 particles are pushed until a complex Al, Ru, Pt, Y, Ba, Cu, O phase starts to form. The formation of this phase is initialized by Al pollution from the Al 2O 3 substrate. A decrease of J c was observed for the sample free of 211 particles compared to standard samples. This effect was more pronounced in low magnetic fields and could be explained by the absence of 211 interface pinning.
