The influence of a continuum background on photoluminescence of self-assembled InAlAs/AlGaAs quantum dots

We have investigated the effect of the low energy tail of the continuum states associated with wetting layers (WL tail) on temperature dependence of the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of self-assembled InAlAs/AlGaAs quantum dots. Summary:We have investigated the effect of the low energy tail of the continuum states associated with wetting layers (WL tail) on temperature dependence of the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of self-assembled InAlAs/AlGaAs quantum dots. We have developed a model that studies this effect. The results of this model suggest that the WL tail play an important role in the evolution according to the temperature of the PL spectra. We have also estimated that the capture into the QD ground state is via the WL tail. ► The evolution with the temperature of the QD PL is related to the WL tail. ► The capture into the QD ground states is via the WL tail. ► The deep of the WL tail decreases according to the QD emission energy.
