Summary:Zeolite beta was used for isopropylation of cumene to diisopropylbenzenes. This zeolite deactivated with increase in time-on-stream period. To overcome the catalyst deactivation during reaction, two different stabilization methods viz. steaming and treatment with (NH 4) 2SiF 6were examined. A combination of these two methods resulted in obtaining a steady stable catalytic performance during alkylation. The effects of various reaction conditions on the activity/selectivity behaviour of the stabilized zeolite have been studied.
