Summary:Thiol-reactive group - pyridyl disulfide functionalized magnetic nanoparticles were prepared via co-precipitation following functionalization by stöber method. The particles were characterized and employed to fast and selective conjugate and isolate protein with free thiol from mixed proteins under mild condition. And the released protein has the original sulfhydryl group without any unnecessary modification. •Preparation of the pyridyl disulfide functionalized magnetic particles.•Characterization of the synthesized magnetic particles.•Fast isolation of thiol-containing protein followed by analysis.
