Selective oxidation of ethane using the Au|YSZ|Ag electrochemical membrane system

The catalytic conversion of ethane to acetaldehyde on an inert gold electrode was studied using the electrochemical membrane reactor with YSZ solid electrolyte at 475 C. Summary:The catalytic conversion of ethane to acetaldehyde on an inert gold electrode was studied using the electrochemical membrane reactor with YSZ solid electrolyte at 475 C. The details of the partial oxidation of ethane to acetaldehyde over the Au/YSZ/Ag system are reported and the mechanism of this selective oxidation discussed. In particular, the role of the electrochemical oxygen pump and the reaction site and also ethane oxidation with N2O over Au/YSZ/Ag or YSZ powder are considered. 23 refs.
