Summary: | Continuous well-adhering high-quality diamond films have been grown on sintered tungsten with a NiFe binder. In order to obtain good adhesion special pre-growth treatment procedures were employed and their effect on growth and on film properties were studied. They include treatment in a hydrogen plasma, carburization in a mixture of H
2 and CH
4, hydrogen plasma etching at elevated temperatures, surface roughening and deposition at optimal conditions. Factors affecting the adhesion between the diamond film and the substrate were investigated. |
