Summary:Cu/γ-Fe/Cu multilayers have been prepared on cleaved NaCl (001) substrates by vacuum deposition. The structures and growth features are investigated by a combined use of RHEED and TEM techniques. The critical thickness of the growth of γ-Fe is estimated to be about 1.5 nm in a temperature range 20–100°C. The effect of RHEED electrons on the epitaxial growth of Cu and γ-Fe films is also studied in detail.
