Summary:This paper proposes a method of measuring the two‐dimensional pose of an object by means of a voting process based on the geometrical parameters of selected future pixels. The proposed method can measure the location and inclination of an object even if the object has an arbitrary two‐dimensional pose in an image. In the template registration process, the geometrical parameters of multiple selected future pixels are registered in the template table. In the matching process, a target image area with a figure similar to a template image is sought by using the geometrical parameters of the future pixels. Experimental results show that the poses of objects with arbitrary locations and inclinations were recognized successfully by the proposed method with higher‐speed matching than by conventional methods. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
