Box 339, Bloemfontein 9300, Republic of South Africa Proteus mirabilis phage 5006M was investigated as a prophage by DNA hybridization. A physical map of the prophage was established and the site of integration was localized on the phage genome. Older reports that the phage is cryptic in P. mirabilis could not be verified.
