Summary:Dynamic characteristics of mold filling under counter gravity for A356 alloy and A356/SiCp composites are compared and analyzed. It is pointed out that there exists much difference in fluidity and flow morphology between A356 alloy and the composites due to the difference in viscosity and equivalent solidification latent. The mold filling under counter gravity can be described by a second-order nonlinear equation characterized by damping oscillations. Composite flows steadier than the matrix alloy during mold filling, and the temperature field resulting from mold filling is more beneficial to directional solidification.
