Summary:A recently reported method for locating the apical constriction and foramen utilizes the principle that current density through the electrolyte-filled canal is highest at the narrowest point and the conformation of the electric field changes suddenly at the apical foramen. The reliability and safety of this method were determined using severed bovine mandibles and anesthetized dogs. In the animal models, it was found that this method is reasonably accurate and possesses a high degree of safety.
