Summary: | Tang Da Wu and the Artists Village are testaments to the complicated history of contemporary art in Singapore. Working within and against a highly centralized and controlling nation-state, artists in Singapore have either had to conform to the establishment or face censorship. Besides, an art establishment came late and was primarily experimental; it therefore had to grow completely outside the system. Presented are a selection of documents and photographs of works by Singaporean artist Tang Da Wu. They are part of a larger collection of materials that form the Singapore Art Archive Project. Tang Da Wu is regarded by many artists and scholars are the “father of performance art” in Singapore. |
