Summary:Producers of human vaccines and health authorities now have a satisfactory way of storing leukosis-free chick embryo fragments in liquid nitrogen. This saves them the trouble of maintaining leukosis-free chicken flocks. The details about the freezing have been elaborately described, and the concentration of dimethyl sulfoxyde must be between 15 and 20%. The results of tests performed after four to seven subcultures showed that the sensitivity to three leukosis viruses belonging to three subgroups had not been modified, and that the cells had not acquired an abnormal antigenicity, since the COFAL tests remained absolutely negative.
