Summary:Nutrition is both an essential element of, and a critical input to, human well-being. Lack of adequate nutritional attainment signifies human deprivation and, hence, lack of human development. The nutrition of women gains added importance in India in more ways than one. With about one-third of women (in the age group of 15-49 years) being undernourished and more than 56 per cent being anaemic in terms of iron deficiency, women's malnutrition is quite high and widespread. Apart from the un-freedom associated with such malnourished life, the cost of women's malnutrition is prohibitively punitive and cumulative. Reprinted by permission of Sage Publications India
